Ukraine cement industry increases output after import antidumping duties

Ukraine’s cement production advanced 10.6 per cent after anti-dumping duties on cement imports were introduced, according to Ukrcement Executive Director, Roman Skilskyi. “After Ukraine introduced antidumping duties in May 2019, cement companies increased the production output of cement clinker by 10.6 per cent as of August 2019 compared to August 2018,” Mr Skilskyi said. Chechencement in Russia’s Republic of Chechnya increased its production capacity by 34 per cent to 0.64Mta in 2019. Cement consumption in Russia increased eight per cent to 57.8Mt in 2019, according to the country’s cement association, Soyuzcement. Puerto Rican cement demand drops 20% in January 2020

Cement sales in Puerto Rico declined 20.4 per cent YoY to 36,255t. The drop in demand was attributed to falling levels of construction after Hurricane Maria as government funds and insurance payment finish, according to Sin Comillas. Cement production in January dropped 17.1 per cent to 35,176t, the first reduction in three months. In 2018 full-year output declined 6.7 per cent YoY to 524,443t.

Argentine cement market contracts 25% in February

Cement demand in Argentina fell 25.4 per cent YoY ad 7.9 per cent MoM to 686,671t in February 2020, according to AFCP, the domestic cement association. Holcim El Salvador produced over 1.2Mt of cement and 710,000Mm 3 of concrete in 2019, representing record production figures, and plans to maintain this positive performance in 2020. The company also co-processed around 26,000t of waste in 2019, up from 20,000t in the previous year. Sagar Cements records 8% YoY fall in production

India’s Sagar Cements has seen its standalone cement production fall 7.9 per cent to 207,860t in February 2020, compared to 225,751t in the year-ago period. Consolidated cement production was also down 3.6 per cent YoY to 287,833t from 298,540t. The company's standalone cement sales for the month declined 2.6 per cent YoY to 212,002t from 217,540t in February 2019. However, consolidated cement sales increased 2.4 per cent YoY to 294,518t from 287,512t.
