Cement demand in Vietnam falls 37% in January

Demand for cement in Vietnam in January 2020 saw a 37 per cent YoY decline to 2,879,347t, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Domestic sales by VICEM fell 43 per cent YoY to 903,383t while its associates saw a 36 per cent YoY drop to 756,964t. Peru’s cement market expanded 2.1 per cent YoY to 946,000t in January 2020 from 927,000 in the year-ago period, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Azerbaijan has recorded a 24 per cent YoY fall in cement production to 191,900t in January 2020, according to the country’s State Statistical Committee. However, ready-mix concrete output advanced 21.7 per cent YoY to 114,900t. Pakistan's first-half cement production increases

Pakistan cement output increased in the first six months of the current fiscal year, according to data released by Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Latest figures for the country's large-scale manufacturing industries (LSMI) for the July-December 2019 period (1HFY19-20) shows that overall output fell by 3.35 per cent YoY. Russian cement production up by 7% in 2019

Russia’s cement producers increased their output by 7.4 per cent to 57.7Mt in 2019, according to Esmerk Russian News. Eurocement group was the country’s top producer with 2.1Mt, up 15 per cent YoY, while Dyckerhoff, DV-Cement and Novoroscement also increased production – by 11-13 per cent YoY. Rail shipments accounted for the largest share of 46.6 per cent of total sales, slightly down on 47.7 per cent reported in 2019. Road transport is reported to continue its growth.

Ukraine’s cement output slips in 2019

The production of cement in Ukraine decreased by 0.5 per cent in 2019 when compared to 2018 and by 4.9 per cent when compared with 2017. Cement production reached 8.89Mt in 2019. The fall was attributed to the exit of HeidelbergCement from the market as well as the introduction of antidumping duties on Russian and Belarus imports.

US cement sales show modest gain in 2019

Cement sales edged up to US$12.5bn in 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Of this total 70-75 per cent of sales were to ready-mixed concrete producers, 10 per cent to concrete product manufacturers, 8-10 per cent to contractors and 5-12 to other customers. Argentina’s cement market contracts 15% in January

Argentine cement consumption fell by 14.7 per cent YoY to 745,709t in January 2020, according to AFCP, the country’s cement association. The market was entirely supplied by domestic production and no imports were recorded. Output from Argentine cement plants reached 758,123t, down 14.3 per cent YoY from 884,363t in January 2018. Of this total, 12,414t were exported, representing a 19.6 per cent increase when compared with the year-ago period.
