Azerbaijan records modest fall in cement production

Azerbaijan produced building materials worth AZN614.7m (US$361.6m) between January-October 2020, up 26.4 per cent YoY, according to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee. Cement production fell 1.2 per cent YoY to 2.8Mt, while production of ready-mixed concrete grew 5.1 per cent to 1.57Mt. Most of the construction work during the first 10 months of the year accounted for primary construction, reconstruction and expansion work.

Cement production rises in Qatar

Qatar’s Industrial Production Index for September 2020 declined 7.7 per cent YoY and 3.9 per cent compared to August 2020, according to the Planning and Statistics Authority. The production of cement and other non-metallic mineral products rose 9.1 per cent MoM in September. On an annual basis, production also advanced 3.1 per cent during the month.

Tokyo Cement (Lanka) Plc increases profits by 163% in FY2Q21

Tokyo Cement (Lanka) Plc reported earnings of LKR2.12bn (US$11.49m) for the FY2Q21 on revenues of LKR11.4bn. Profits and revenues were up 163 per cent and 13 per cent, respectively, compared to the July-September period in 2019. Domestic cement production in August 2020 rose by 17.4 per cent to 392,000t compared to 334,000t in August 2019, reports the Daily Mirror. The cumulative cement production from January to August 2020 rose by six per cent to 2.448Mt, up from 2.31Mt in 1H19.

Tajikistan exports 31% of production in 9M20

Tajikistan exported 990,000t of cement in the January-September period of 2020, according to the country’s Ministry of Industry and New Technologies. Around 31 per cent of the cement produced in the country was exported in the 9M20, mainly to Uzbekistan (562,000t), Afghanistan (391,000t) and Kyrgyzstan (43,000t). Sri Lanka's cement production and imports recovered in June by 42.6 per cent YoY, according to Central Bank data. In June cement imports also grew by a record 58.9 per cent YoY to reach 404,000Mt, overtaking domestic cement production, which increased by 28.3 per cent YoY to reach 370,000Mt. Belarus produces 2.3Mt of cement in 1H20

In January-June 2020 Belarus manufactured nearly 2.3Mt of cement, 102.3 per cent up on 1H19. In the same period, the cement industry enterprises made nearly BYN400m (US$150m) worth of industrial products, 12.4 per cent up from 1H19.

Azerbaijan records 2% decline in cement production

Cement production in Azerbaijan declined 2.4 per cent YoY to 1.57Mt in the first half of 2020, according to the State Statistics Committee. However, ready-mix concrete production rose 3.6 per cent to 821,500t. Overall, the value of building materials produced in the country reached AZN327.6m (US$192.82m) in the 1H20, down 10.4 per cent compared to the corresponding period of last year.

Salonit Anhovo suspends production for two weeks

Slovenia’s Salonit Anhovo has suspended production for two weeks from 20 April, due to demand in its Italian and Slovenian markets falling amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis. However, the company will continue to make cement shipments to its customers.
